Flixie Acuna is a registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) and registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMDT) providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive psychotherapy to adults navigating trauma, anxiety, OCD, cultural transitions, migration, and relational concerns. Growing up in the Philippines and immigrating to the United States as an adult deeply shaped her understanding of healing, resilience, and identity. Her lived experience allows her to thoughtfully support clients who are navigating change, loss, and rediscovery—both within themselves and in their relationships.
Flixie strives to create a therapeutic space that feels safe, collaborative, and grounded in cultural humility, where clients can show up authentically and move at their own pace. She views healing as a process of honoring one’s story, reconnecting with inner strength, and taking intentional steps toward restoration and meaningful connection. In her work, Flixie supports individuals healing from a wide range of trauma, with a special focus on sexual trauma and its impact on relationships and sense of self. She also works with clients navigating anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), family dynamics, and the emotional challenges associated with immigration and cultural identity.
Her therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, relational, and integrative, grounded in curiosity and compassion. Flixie draws from multiple evidence-based modalities to meet each client where they are in their healing journey. Her clinical framework includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems, Gestalt therapy, Attachment Theory, and interventions informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and somatic practices. She has also completed EMDR Basic Training and incorporates EMDR-informed strategies to support trauma processing and nervous system regulation when clinically appropriate.
Flixie earned her Bachelor of Science in Community Development, with a minor in Psychology, from the University of the Philippines–Diliman, and later completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at Hope International University. Prior to graduate training, she worked as a social worker with the County of Orange, supporting Filipino older adults and their families through the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program. This work deepened her commitment to advocacy, culturally responsive care, and supporting clients across the lifespan.
Outside of therapy, Flixie finds grounding through time in the ocean, caring for animals, and participating in community spaces that celebrate culture, connection, and belonging.
